ISO Fits Chart

Limit deviations for holes H7, H8, H9 and H11 and shafts c11 to s6, and the clearance or interference of ten common hole-basis fits, for every ISO 286 size range up to 500 mm.

Calculate for your exact case →
TorqueMath.com · ISO Fits Charttorquemath.com/iso-fits-chart/

Find the size range of your part, read the upper and the lower deviation in micrometres and add them to the nominal size. Example: a 25 mm H7 hole may measure 25.000 to 25.021 mm and a g6 shaft 24.980 to 24.993 mm, so the pair has 7 to 41 µm clearance. The third table gives that result directly for each common fit: green clearance fits always have play, red interference fits are always tight, and amber transition fits can be either.

Need a size or setting that is not in the chart? The calculator handles any hole and shaft letter from C to S and grades IT5 to IT11 for your exact diameter, in µm or inches, and works out the shrink-fit temperature.

FAQ

What does H7/g6 mean?

H7 is the hole: fundamental deviation H (lower limit at the nominal size) and tolerance grade IT7. g6 is the shaft: deviation g (slightly below nominal) and grade IT6. Together they make a close sliding fit – for 25 mm the play is 7 to 41 µm.

How do I read the deviation tables?

Each cell shows the upper deviation above the lower one, in µm. Add them to the nominal size: a 40 mm k6 shaft (range 30–40) has +18 / +2 µm, so it must measure 40.002 to 40.018 mm.

Which fit should I use?

H7/h6 or H7/g6 for parts that must slide or be located by hand, H7/k6 or H7/n6 for gears and couplings that need accurate location (light press or mallet), H7/p6 for press-fitted bushes and pins, H7/r6 or H7/s6 for permanent press or shrink fits that carry torque.

Is 18 mm in the 10–18 or the 18–30 range?

In 10–18. ISO 286 ranges run “over 10 up to and including 18”, so a size exactly at a range limit belongs to the lower row.

What is the difference between a transition and an interference fit?

An interference fit is tight for every pair of parts within tolerance. A transition fit such as H7/k6 can give a little play or a little interference depending on where the actual sizes fall – fine for location, but not to transmit torque on its own.
